Description:
Pandolfo, Kuiken, Moreno, etc... A collection of "Folia" by famous artists of the ancient music world! Folia" is a dance piece that originated in the Iberian Peninsula in the 15th century. Meaning "madness," it was initially a fast, ecstatic dance that evolved during the Baroque period until it was formalized into standard harmonic progressions and melodies, often in the form of variations. This 2-CD set brings together various versions of the "Folia" that have been recorded over the years by some of the best-known artists in the world of ancient music. The most famous of the "Folia" works, Corelli's Violin Sonata, Op. 5-12, is performed by Lina Tour Bonnet and Sigiswald Kuijken, with a gumba version by Paolo Pandolfo and others, and an ensemble concerto version arranged by Geminiani. Vivaldi's Violin Sonatas, Op. 1-12, can also be heard in recordings by Sigiswald Kuijken, Enrico Gatti, and Leila Scheie (Laila Scheiek). Tokyo M-Plus
