Chick Corea
Description:
Chick Corea's latest release is a two-disc set of solo live performances from 2018. This solo live work explores the genealogy of great composers from Mozart to Monk, Jobim, Stevie Wonder, and himself, and is an enjoyable solo live work of music in general. Chick Corea says, "Solo piano is solitary," and this release features live performances from 2018 that captivated enthusiastic audiences in concert halls across Europe and the United States, where he played solo but also with some of his favorite composers from the history of music. The film, which includes not only the performances but also Collier's narrative, is also an interesting work of warm and witty audience interaction and Collier's pairing of pieces by his favorite composers, revealing surprising commonalities that bridge styles, genres, and eras from Mozart to the present. According to the man himself, "I am part of a certain bloodline. What I do is similar to what Monk did, what Bill Evans and Duke Ellington did, and back in another musical era, what Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven did.All of these pianists were composers at heart and brought their own musicians together to perform. I am proud to be part of that tradition."
