Japanese students Toshi Maeda, Keisuke Nakamura and Atsushi Omori first met while studying in Perth, Australia. A mutual respect for the Ramones saw them form punk band Mach Pelican. By 1998 the trio had relocated to Melbourne from where they extensively toured through all major cities of Australia. Along their hectic schedule Mach Pelican managed to tour with the likes of Buzzcocks, Radio Birdman, The Donnas, Hard-Ons, Butthole Surfers, Rancid and Spazzys, amongst many others.
