Description:
The first collection (8.572887) is a collection of Ravel's (1875-1937) orchestral works by Slatkin & Lyon, which immediately captured the ears of fans with a lineup that includes the very famous "Bolero". The second collection features arrangements from piano pieces, including two waltzes. All of them are not easy to play, but Slatkin was a master of his art. The music is beautifully controlled and beautifully played. The "Elegant and Sentimental Waltz" was originally written with the motif of Schubert's waltz, and when the piano premiered it, the composer's name was withheld and an attempt was made to guess "whose piece it was.In the piano version, some people thought it was by another composer, but in the orchestral version, Ravel, the "magician of sound," has developed a sound world that is truly his own, and no one would make the mistake. Although Ravel did not arrange "Gaspard de l'Oeil" himself, the piano's haunting sound at the beginning of "Ondine" is beautifully transposed to the orchestra. Couperin's Tomb" is Ravel's remembrance of his friends who lost their lives in World War I. La Valse is a tribute to the Vienna Waltz. Ravel's strength can be felt in his suppleness. This is lovely.
