Gibson J-50 ADJ Circa 1963 (141163)

Great Players Grade Guitar!

This Gibson J-50 (141163) was produced sometime in the early 60’s and based on the serial number 1963 is likely the exact year.  The guitar was well maintained but not babied and several practical changes have been made to the guitar to keep it in its most playable condition.  The neck and neck angle are dead on straight with no signs of ever having been reset.  The original tuning keys have been traded out for Grover Rotomatics.  The fingerboard has been completely refretted at some point with much larger frets than before and is showing some minor fret wear again.  The nut has been replaced with a taller one to accommodate the taller fret size.  As was common practice in the day, the adjustable bridge has been replaced with a regular rosewood belly-up bridge with a drop-in saddle.  The original oversized pickguard is still on securely.  At some point a pickup was installed and since removed leaving the output jack hole remaining on the side of the guitar.  The finish is characteristically weather checked as older instruments are prone to do, and is free from major damage.  It is speckled with many dings and nicks, but the only notable excessive spots are pick play wear around the sound hole, some color rub-through on the back on the bass side lower bout where a player would wrap their arm around, and a 2” crack/scratch on the treble side lower bout on the top.  The original case has been replaced by a more modern Gibson case.  Overall the guitar would fall into the Good Condition category.
