Perhaps the mountain’s most impressive feature, besides its prominence in the landscape, is what’s referred to as the Chalk Cliffs—giving the appearance of a chalky white color on one side of the mountain. The stone cliffs are actually a crumbling gray-white quartz monzonite that was formed approximately 65 million years ago.
