Description:

Ristori was born in Italy to an actor in the service of the king. In 1746 he became a church musician in Dresden and also worked in Russia, but unfortunately his fame did not spread very far. Moreover, most of his manuscripts, which were preserved at the court in Saxony, were scattered during World War II, which contributed to his work being forgotten. Fortunately, however, quite a few manuscripts have survived, and even today his works are performed on more than a few occasions. The three religious pieces on this album, with their understated but beautiful music, evoke the grand ceremonies of 18th century Dresden churches. Naxos Japan
