Zebrowski, Marcin Jozef (1702-1770)
Description:
Marcin Józef Jebrowski (Zebrowski) was a violinist and composer active in 18th century Poland. His sonatas were so popular that they were published outside of the country, even in Amsterdam. This album includes "Evening Lessons for the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary" and "Magnificat". The works quote from a 17th-century antiphona published in Cracow in 1645, and also use the varied rhythms popular in Italy at the time, with their frequent use of dotted dots. The trumpet, which plays an exquisite dialogue with the soprano soloist, is also a highlight of the performance. This is a disc that allows the listener to fully enjoy the unknown Polish Baroque works. Naxos Japan
