About the Photoshoot

You never really know how a night will unfold when you set out to photograph the Northern Lights. Sometimes the sky stays dark, sometimes a faint glow teases the horizon—and then there are nights like this, when the heavens come alive in a brilliant, ethereal dance.

I remember standing in front of Kirkjufell, the mountain perfectly still, reflected in the calm waters of the stream and framed by the small waterfall below. I had been waiting, quietly watching the sky, when the aurora began to stretch across the upper half of the scene—arching, swirling, covering the stars in waves of vibrant green.

What makes this photograph special is the balance: Kirkjufell stands centered and grounded while the sky moves above, alive with energy. It was late summer, early fall—the grass still green, the landscape not yet touched by snow. Everything in the scene, from the mountain to the water to the sky, was washed in soft green tones. Looking at this image brings me peace. It feels like the whole landscape was breathing in harmony.
