The Kieler Woche — Kiel Week — is one of the world's largest sailing events, held annually in northern Germany since 1882. This 1964 poster was designed for the event at the height of mid-century graphic design, when poster art was the dominant visual medium and designers treated the brief as a creative challenge rather than a commercial obligation. The result is something that belongs equally in a sailing club and a design museum.
