“Very toasty nose. The barrel ageing has made a huge impact on this wine, nose and palate. It's rich and spicy, deeply golden in flavour, grilled brioche, golden peaches, satsumas and saffrom. It rolls across the tongue like a trumpet and drum, silvery notes slipping through old gold, intent, piercing.” Tamlyn Currin, Jancisrobinson.com
Producer: Richard and Kirsty Goring, with winemaker Dermot Sugrue, has seen Wiston really become a leading force in English fizz. They have the same chalk soil as the Cote des blancs in Champagne, and by using a 50 year old Coquard press, their gentle pressing means that they get great juice and with their back catalogue of reserve wines going back to 2009, they can really make a superb non-vintage.
