Description:
Pearl Schumann recordings by Konwitschny & the Gewandhaus Orchestra come to life in the latest remastering! This masterpiece is the ultimate in musical performance. Newly reissued from the original ETERNA analog tapes in its home country. Excellent recording. World's first SACD release! Mastered only in the analog domain and converted directly to DSD! The sixth SACD hybridization of the latest reissue project of the original ETERNA analog tapes in Japan! The latest reissue of Schumann's complete symphonies and other works, which, along with Beethoven, are Konwitschny's most famous recordings, are now available on SACD for the first time in the world. The recordings made by Klaus Streuben at that time are still of the highest quality today, and are ideal recordings of the Gewandhaus Orchestra at its peak, capturing all the beauty of its functions and tone quality. For this reissue, ETERNA's original analog master tapes were used and mastered with the utmost care to preserve the best possible sound quality. This masterpiece, highly regarded as one of the ideal performances in the history of Schumann recordings, has been revived in its ultimate form. The performance is a historical masterpiece, with a traditional and formal performance, a profound orchestral sound and a hint of darkness, combined with the clarity and subtlety of Konwitschny's expression. This is a performance representative of its time, and a truly authentic portrayal of Schumann.Even today, the orchestra maintains a high reputation among Schumann's complete symphonic works, and even without the historical fact that it was the orchestra that premiered all symphonies other than the "Rhine," it is needless to say that this is a performance that ranks among the most right-wing. In addition to the symphonies, the complete works include three overtures and the "Konzertstück for four horns and orchestra," which was rare at the time, and is highly valuable in that it is the only recording of Peter Dam as principal conductor since 1959. It is probably one of the first stereo recordings of this difficult piece, with a series of technically challenging passages. This is a complete set with no omissions in any of the pieces, including this one, and a high degree of perfection. One of the ultimate performances has been brought back to the present day with the best and latest mastering. (1/2)
