Nana Vasoncelos
Description:
Recorded in March 1979, Saudade is the realization of Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcelos' dream of hearing Berimbau with an orchestra. The work was made possible by Egberto Gismonti's arrangement for strings and his participation as co-composer and supporting soloist. The Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Mladen Gutesha, who previously worked with Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, and Terje Lipidar on a trans idiomatic project at ECM. Saudade is a work so ahead of its time that the world is waiting for it to catch up. The reissue of this record is in gatefold format and features additional new liner notes that provide historical background.
