The inset image demonstrates the two types of lumbar spondylolistheses – a traumatic condition where spinal ligament damage (and in some cases spinal fracture) results in anterior (forward) slippage of a vertebra -  called “anterolisthesis”, or posterior (backward) slippage of a vertebra – called retrolisthesis. (In the event a vertebra slides forward or back 3.5mm on the vertebra below, should result in a surgical consultation and qualifies as a permanent impairment under the American Medical Association Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment.)
