Dexter Gordon Quartet
Description:
Dexter Gordon 1977 Paris/Château Vallon - A performance with a passionate singing spirit! The 37-minute-long "Gingerbread Boy," a Jimmy Heath classic, and many other performances that show how well the band was performing at the time are now back in the spotlight! Dexter Gordon has been playing with the Quartet since 1977 with George Caples, Rufus Reed and Eddie Gladden, and with this group he released "Manhattan Symphonie" for Columbia in 1978 and "Nights At The Keystone" for Blue Note. The two-disc set presented here includes a performance by the same quartet at the 1978 Jazz Festival in Châteauvallon, France. As usual, Dex introduces the songs in his usual eloquent manner, followed by a hot performance. Although the repertoire is familiar, Dex's tenor is full of fresh phrases, indicating how well he was performing at that time.Jimmy Heath's classic "Gingerbread Boy" plays for over 37 minutes. After the passionate performance, Dexter's own composition "Long Tall Dexter" was played as the closing theme before the closing announcement.
