Claudio Abbado (conductor)
Description:
Recorded around 1970 with four prestigious orchestras, Abbado's four Brahms symphonies and two orchestral works are coupled. After his impressive Salzburg debut in 1965, Abbado was invited to conduct orchestras all over Europe, and in 1971 he became the principal conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic, and in 1972 he became the principal guest conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra. He was welcomed with great acclaim as a young conductor of note. This series of Brahms recordings is the result of his extensive activities, and the symphony recordings with four prestigious orchestras are a great performance that shows how well Abbado was performing at that time, and sets a new image of Brahms.
