World premiere recording of six varied and unknown classical divertimentosLeopold Hofmann was a pupil of Georg Christoph Wagenseil, a music teacher of the Austrian imperial family and music director of St. Stephen's Cathedral. Although best known as a keyboardist, he also devoted himself to composing chamber music for strings. His first recording, Divertimento, Op.1, is a collection of six trios in two different orchestras. The Divertimento is a collection of six trios in two different orchestras. The divertimento has a clean, classical sound, but there are also some Baroque trio sonata-like sounds in some places. The movements vary widely from two to five movements. Musica Elegentia, led by Matteo Cicchitti, also recorded the world premiere of Wagenseil's Sonata Collection in the same configuration (CC-72896), and is a remarkable introduction to the unknown music of the 18th century.
