How are diamond colours graded?
Diamond colors are graded using a scale developed by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) that ranges from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown). Graders assess a diamond's color by comparing it to a set of master stones with known colors under controlled lighting conditions. The less color a diamond exhibits, the higher its grade on the scale. Diamonds in the D to F range are considered "colorless," while those in the G to J range are classified as "near colorless." As the grade moves further down the scale, the presence of yellow or brown hues becomes more pronounced, affecting a diamond's overall value and appearance.
