Sleater-Kinney's first post-Janet Weiss album, taken on its own terms, is pretty strong. The snakelike intertwining of guitars, a group hallmark, largely goes by the wayside here, and the aggression is toned way down, but song-by-song it all holds up. Opener "Path of Wellness" and closer "Bring Mercy" are nice examples of the tweaked approach, and there are some fine melodies, musical ideas and lyrical ideas to make this well worthwhile.
