About the Photoshoot

Capturing "Sunset Valley" in Iceland's enchanting Valley of Tears was a meticulous and rewarding endeavor. Known for its myriad streaming waterfalls and ever-flowing river, this valley epitomizes Iceland's untamed beauty.

During this photoshoot, I aimed to encapsulate the landscape’s raw essence, particularly focusing on the unique lighting that makes Iceland so captivating. Late summer provided the ideal conditions: the terrain was clear of snow, exposing its intricate details, and the unfrozen water allowed for striking long-exposure shots of the waterfalls. The lighting, as the Midnight Sun began to fade, created a breathtaking canvas of colors.

Conditions for the shoot could not have been more perfect. The sunset skies reflected perfectly on the river, which snaked through a valley torn in an otherwise verdant lava landscape. This composition is a perfect reflection of Iceland’s nature, fueled by a dozen waterfalls and surrounded by the silhouettes of distant peaks. From the precipice I shot from, the view over the entire scene was breathtaking, with the river in the foreground gently leading the eye against its flow, up the waterfalls, and to the mountains and heavens above.

Sigoldugljufur canyon, known as The Valley of Tears, is located in the central highlands of Iceland near the famous Landmannalaugar region. This mesmerizing landscape features lush moss-coated lava plains, numerous streaming waterfalls, and an ever-flowing river, creating a pristine environment that feels untouched by human hands. The area is part of the Fjallabak Nature Reserve, a protected area known for its geothermal activity and stunning natural beauty.
