The Armored Republic JN I (John 1) Modular Chest Rig is a front-line load-bearing platform built for two distinct roles: a standalone rig worn over the H harness, or a carrier-mounted placard attached via swift clips. Weighing 1.1 lbs and measuring 6 × 9.5 × 2 inches, the JN I ships in Black, Coyote, Multicam, Olive Drab, and Woodland. It holds six M4 magazines out of the box across three double-stack-capable cells, with adjustable bungee cord retention on each cell.
The JN I is a chest rig, not a plate carrier. It does not have plate pockets and does not accept ballistic armor plates. It functions as a magazine and pouch platform designed to be worn over a plate carrier or independently via the included H harness.
Three rows of MOLLE webbing run across the external face of the JN I, providing mounting real estate for additional rifle magazines, general-purpose pouches, and other accessories beyond the three built-in double-stack magazine cells. The included MOLLE extension wings expand that coverage laterally, mounting pouches to the left and right of the main rig body. Wings are removable when not in use, converting the rig to a slimmer micro rig or placard profile.
A hidden kangaroo pocket sits behind the three main magazine cells — accessible from the back — for storing smaller items that don't need front-of-rig placement.
The JN I ships with an H harness for standalone wear. Removing the harness exposes swift clips that attach to most plate carriers for placard-style mounting. A removable hook cover on the back of the rig prevents snagging against t-shirts during standalone carry; removing that cover allows direct attachment to a carrier without requiring a cummerbund flap.
At 1.1 lbs unloaded, the JN I keeps its carry weight low even before adding magazines. The adjustable bungee cord system on each of the three cells applies consistent retention across different magazine shapes and profiles. The rig is available in five colorways — Black, Coyote, Multicam, Olive Drab, and Woodland — to match existing kit or issued gear.
The swift clips on the back of the JN I attach to most plate carriers, making it compatible with the majority of carriers on the market. For standalone use, the included H harness handles all mounting — no carrier required. If you're unsure whether the JN I will clip to your specific carrier setup, contact us before ordering.
The JN I does not have plate pockets and does not accept armor plates. It's a magazine and pouch chest rig, not a plate carrier. For a carrier that accepts ballistic plates, see the Armored Republic plate carrier line.
No. The JN I ships with the rig body, H harness, and MOLLE extension wings. No ballistic panels or armor plates are included or available as add-ons for this product.
Yes, in most cases. The swift clips on the back of the JN I attach to most plate carriers on the market. Remove the H harness and hook cover, then clip directly to your carrier's front face. If you're working with an unusual carrier configuration, contact us to confirm fitment.
The JN I has three rows of MOLLE webbing across its external face, plus two removable MOLLE extension wings that expand capacity to the left and right. Together, these allow mounting of additional rifle magazines, medical pouches, utility pouches, and other MOLLE-compatible accessories beyond the six-magazine base configuration.
Yes. The included H harness lets the JN I function as a fully independent chest rig with no carrier underneath. It pairs naturally with a battle belt to create a complete loadout without body armor.
With the H harness attached, the JN I is a standalone rig worn on its own. Remove the harness and the rig clips directly onto a plate carrier via its swift clips, functioning as a placard. Removing the wings further reduces the profile to a micro rig footprint on the carrier's face.
