Young emperor. Real Roman silver. No plastic coffin. No nonsense.
This is a Gordian III silver antoninianus, struck during the chaos-filled glory days of the Roman Empire, when emperors came and went faster than bad eBay listings. The obverse shows a strong radiate bust of Gordian III, and the reverse carries the ORIENS AVG type with Sol standing, the sun god bringing the heat while the empire was busy trying not to implode.
The portrait on this one has real punch. Nice facial detail, clear crown, solid ancient look, and none of that dead, flat “who cares” appearance that weak examples get stuck with. The reverse is softer, but still fully within the charm of these mid-3rd century Roman issues. It looks old because it is old — nearly 1,800 years old, not something cooked up in a basement last Tuesday.
A solid piece of Roman silver that gives you everything you want:
history, eye appeal, emperor portrait, and an affordable entry into Imperial Roman coinage without selling a kidney.
