This 12c red definitive stamp of the Philippines, issued in 1949, features a portrait of Fr. José Burgos, one of the three martyr priests collectively known as Gomburza. Burgos was executed in 1872 for alleged involvement in the Cavite Mutiny, becoming a symbol of Filipino resistance and national identity. The stamp is inscribed “Republika ng Pilipinas” at the top and “Burgos” at the bottom left. A key part of the post-independence series honoring national heroes, it holds strong historical and patriotic significance for collectors of Philippine classics.
