BACK COVER TEXT:
Pandemics happen very rarely, almost once in a century. COVID-19 wreaked havoc on every dimension of our society, and the disruption it created foregrounds the importance of social science as a tool by which to make sense of what’s happening in our world. This book chronicles the Filipinos’ way of life during the pandemic and provides analysis of how they have navigated the challenges of the so-called “new normal” through the perspective of different fields of discipline.

The impact of COVID-19 varied from person to person, family to family, and community to community. In this book, we look into how different people have been affected by the pandemic and how they have coped with it. Divided into four parts—Frontliners and Patients, Urban-Rural Dimension of the Pandemic, COVID-19 Among Overseas Filipinos, and Gender, Security, and Religion—this publication intends to document the Filipinos’ way of life during the pandemic; examine how the pandemic has interrupted certain processes and practices in various aspects of life; and provide insights into ways by which to navigate the challenges of the so-called “new normal” through the perspective of various social science disciplines.
