Occasionally, in the 90’s and 00’s, the Royal Navy would dispose of special bells, tread plates and badges in auction houses like Phillips, Bonhams and Portsmouth auctioneers Nesbits. This, the screen badge from Falklands hero HMS Intrepid, was one of those special pieces. In resin and beautifully weathered, an important piece of insignia from a very important ship.
HMS Intrepid (L11) was a Fearless‑class landing platform dock of the Royal Navy, built by John Brown & Co, Clydebank, laid down in 1962, launched in 1964 and commissioned in 1967. She supported global operations including disaster relief after the 1970 Bhola cyclone in East Pakistan, and played a key role in the 1982 Falklands War, landing troops in San Carlos Water and Bluff Cove.
