The vintage rugs offered in the Hemp Bouquet collection were all handwoven in the Anatolian countryside by village women for their home use. Most date from the mid 1900s. There are regional similarities in design and motifs, yet no two rugs are the same and the diversity is astounding.

This colorful rug woven of alternating shades of grey hemp comes from the inner Aegean region of Anatolia. The grey color occurs when dry hemp stalks are wetted by rain causing fungi to grow that stain the hemp fibers. The colorfast pigment adds a depth and character unique to Turkish hemp textiles. The weft bands are woven of natural black goat hair and yellow, green and pink synthetic yarn. The selvage is finished with stitches. One end has a short, knotted fringe, and the other sports a wide plaited band with long, knotted net fringe.
A very uncommon textile, strikingly bold with its simple contrasting design, this rug will make a fine addition to your home.
