The stories of Gabriel and Alejandro, written by Chuckberry J. Pascual, have captured the hearts of modern Filipino booklovers. Whether with absolute hope and empathy for the bakla and his straight lover, or disdain for their doomed relationship, readers have been both fascinated and enthralled. Now, with a translation by Ralph Semino Galán, these stories will come alive again in a different language. His translation of the Pascual stories is often marked with a conscious effort to preserve and maintain the original. Yet, because he is a writer himself and a poet at that, Galán leaves his own patterns and markings in the text.
