Wall hung ceramic moth

Each moth is constructed of layered clay imprinted with patterns from vintage lace doilies. After an initial firing the moths are coloured and fired again. Small bird feathers are added for antennae.

Jenny Wilson draws inspiration from the women in her mother’s family, who raised silk moths for their cocoons and fibre. She holds vivid childhood memories of hearing her mother’s stories, spotting moths and butterflies in the garden, and encountering delicate, pinned collections in museum displays. These early experiences have shaped a recent series of works centred around moth and butterfly themes, reflecting both personal history and a fascination with the natural world.
