Pinus roxburghii is a tall, evergreen conifer tree known for its long, slender needles and sturdy trunk. It grows naturally on the lower slopes of the Himalayas, thriving in dry, rocky hillsides and well-drained soils. The tree can reach heights of 30–50 meters, with a straight bole and reddish-brown bark that peels in irregular plates.

The needles, usually grouped in threes, are long (20–30 cm) and flexible, giving the tree a graceful appearance. Its cones are ovoid and woody, containing winged seeds dispersed by the wind. Chir Pine is valued for its resin, timber, and soil-binding capacity, making it an ideal choice for reforestation and erosion control in hilly terrains
