The Brigade was inactivated on 22 May 2007.

Iraq War Service - Communications in Combat

The 22nd Signal Brigade deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, providing critical communications support to V Corps operations. The brigade established and maintained communications networks throughout Iraq, enabling commanders to control their forces, coordinate operations, and communicate with higher headquarters and subordinate units.

Signal soldiers of the 22nd Brigade operated in a combat environment, installing communications equipment, maintaining networks, and ensuring that communications remained operational despite enemy attacks, harsh weather, and challenging conditions. They worked around the clock to keep communications running, responding to outages, conducting repairs, and adapting to the constantly changing requirements of combat operations.

Signal Soldiers in Iraq - Enabling Mission Success

In Iraq, communications were critical to mission success. Commanders needed reliable voice and data communications to coordinate operations, call for fire support, request medical evacuation, and maintain situational awareness. Signal soldiers of the 22nd Brigade provided these capabilities, establishing networks that connected forward operating bases, tactical operations centers, and mobile units throughout Iraq.

Signal soldiers faced improvised explosive devices (IEDs), indirect fire, and other threats while conducting their missions. They installed communications equipment on rooftops, laid cable through dangerous areas, and maintained equipment in austere conditions. Their technical expertise and dedication ensured that communications remained operational, enabling V Corps to accomplish its mission in Iraq.

The 22nd Signal Brigade's soldiers earned Bronze Stars, Army Commendation Medals, and other awards for their service in Iraq. They demonstrated that signal soldiers are not just technicians but warriors who operate in combat environments and contribute directly to mission success.
