The Hanson Bothers, Jack, Steve, and Jeff, were fictional characters from the 1977 movie Slapshot. Though the film starred one of the biggest stars of the day, Paul Newman, the brothers portrayed by Steve Carlson, Jeff Carlson, and David Hanson, went onto develop quite a cult following among hockey fans. Indeed, the characters were based on the two real-life brothers who played them, along with David Hanson. All three were pro hockey players. Steve played for the L.A. Kings in the NHL and the New England Whalers, Minnesota Fighting Saints, and New England Whalers of the WHA as well as multiple minor league teams.

Jeff played for the Minnesota Fighting Saints and also had a lengthy career in the minors. David Hanson played for the Detroit Red Wings and Minnesota North Stars in the NHL, as well as Whalers, Fighting Saints, and Birmingham Bulls of the WHA.
