With a high-quality carbon fibre construction, complemented by a honeycomb rubber coating grip, the Rigel is hard-wearing whilst also comfortable to hold. A 0.96 Inch TFT colour screen, consisting of six background colour schemes, displays vaping data such as battery life and wattage. This is navigated through the operational buttons underneath the screen whilst a large firing button locks activates and unlocks the device. As well as a 0.001-second firing speed, a range of safety protections including short circuit, overheat and an 8-second cutoff provides high quality, secure vaping experience.

The TFV9 features a 2ml e-liquid capacity with a 28mm diameter and can be refilled by simply pressing the button on the top side of the tank to reveal a juice port, for users to fill with any e-liquid of their choice. A sleek bottom adjustable airflow gives choice over inhalation, whether it be a loose draw or a more restricted vape you require. Utilising either the TFV9 0.15 Ohm mesh coils or the V8 Baby 0.15 Ohm mesh coils, we recommend pairing with high VG e-liquids of 60% and above for best results.

The Mod

The mod is the most exciting part of the device. Smok has gone for the Wismec Reuleaux shape, which has a snuggle fit in your hands. It's very comfortable to hold more so considering that it is a dual battery mod. Smok has also done an excellent job of cutting down on the size, making it a compact dual battery device that is easy to carry around.

The style adopted for the mod is equally exciting. It is wrapped around a plastic, carbon fibred and rubberised coating that gives the Rigel a luxurious feel that feels comfortable in your hands.

The mod has a spring-loaded 510 connection, a large and clicky power button and a 0.96” TFT colour screen that displays all the vital information as you use the device. The charging port is a Type-C with venting holes at the bottom.

One thing is certain with the Rigel, the build quality is robust, strong, well thought out and laid out to make it easy to use for both new and experienced vapers.

The battery and charging

The battery bay for the Smok Rigel is accessed from the back of the device. The door to the battery bay opens up to a neat little interior that clearly exposes the battery polarity marks, the spring-loaded battery terminals and a ribbon to assist in removing the batteries.  

The inside of the door has a caution message which provides valuable information on how to handle the batteries safely. The battery bay door fits perfectly and is held in place by a set of magnets. It is secure but remains easy enough to remove. Once the door is closed, there is no movement which gives the entire device a firm and sturdy feel.

Usage and operation

The Rigel is designed to be a device for all. Smok has eliminated some of the features that might make starters feel intimidated by the device. The features include temperature control and other advanced settings that are now absent from the Smok Rigel.

The brand has instead focused on making the device simple and easy to use. It features a variable wattage chip with a pretty display. The display has all the vital information you need when using the device that is easy to read and laid out in a simple way.

Here is the set of buttons you need when operating the device:

• 5 clicks of the power button for on/off
• 3 clicks of the power button locks/unlocks the device
• 1 click and hold of the power button fires the device
• Up button increases the wattage.
• The down button decreases the wattage.
• Up/down buttons together lock wattage.
• Fire +up reset the puff counter.
• Fire+down changes the screen colours.

The TFV9 Tank

The Smok Rigel is paired with a TFV9 tank. The tank offers a great vaping experience with a smooth flavour, easy filling and no leakages. The tank works with V9 coils rated at 0.15 ohms and lasts a long time which is an excellent bonus and saves you money on the replacements. You can fill the tank using the top fill cap, which is relatively easy to operate.
