This exquisite antique cross pendant was crafted in Russia during the late 19th century, circa 1880. The front features intricate hand-painted enamel work depicting Christ on the crucifix, with vivid details that bring the figure to life. Below the crucifix rests a painted skull and crossbones, symbolising mortality and the hope of resurrection.
The reverse is engraved with Cyrillic script, with the words ‘spaci sokrani’ meaning save and protect. Stamped with the Moscow city mark and a "560" gold fineness stamp, equivalent to 14K gold, the pendant weighs 5.26 grams and measures 42mm by 21mm.
Although the maker’s name remains unidentified, this piece carries the hallmark of a known Moscow craftsman whose work is dated to the same period.
Condition: Excellent antique condition with minimal wear to the enamel, commensurate with age. A stunning example of Russian ecclesiastical jewellery and craftsmanship from the late 19th century.
