Som många andra av 1950-talets svenska förnyare av den traditionstyngda smyckeskonsten utbildade sig Ibe Dahlquist (1924-1996) till formgivare vid Konstfack. Efter avklarad utbildning bosatte hon sig i Visby och tillsammans med silversmeden Olov Barve skapade hon smycken med en säregen och modernistisk ton, även Barve utexaminerades från Konstfack i mitten av 1950-talet och de bägge arbetade tillsammans under flera decennier. Som andra tillverkare från tiden arbetade Dahlquist med "låga" material, bland annat stenar och fossiler som hon hittat på Gotlands stränder, i opposition till traditionella smycken i ädla stenar och metaller. Ibe Dahlquist var en av deltagarna på den legendariska utställningen "The International Exhibition of Modern Jewellery" i London 1961. Utställningen blandade etablerade smyckeskonstnärer som Alexander Calder och Pablo Picasso med mer traditionella smyckestillverkare som Harry Winston för att visa på smyckeskonstens variationsrika natur. Man bjöd också in etablerade skulptörer och lät gjuta deras små vaxskulpturer i "låga" material som exempelvis brons. Även Dahlquist arbetade ofta och gärna i brons och tycks ha haft en särskild förkärlek för och förmåga att locka fram det allra bästa från den gyllene legeringen. 1965 värvades hon till firma Georg Jensen och formgav för deras räkning ett flertal smycken med sin omisskännliga modernistiska men mjuka stil. Ibe Dahlquist finns idag representerad bland annat på Nationalmuseum i Stockholm och på British Museum i London.
