I was astounded that this came out as well as it did. In a move away from making very tight cuts in an illustrative sense, this felt much more like stone carving in that I was trying to sculpt into the quartz. The frosted texture of the quartz gives the eye a ghostly quality that I didn't anticipate.

The eye is an oval-shaped dome measuring 12mm x 16mm

As with my wax work, all stone carving is done by me in my Newcastle upon Tyne studio in the UK. I use diamond-coated discs and burrs, and the process gives me the most colourful headache.

This piece is completely one-of-a-kind.
