【Description】

The Datejust is one of the most popular self-winding Rolex watches.

It is widely known as a watch that anyone can recognize at a glance from its distinctive appearance.

The Datejust mechanism, in which the date changes instantly at zero o’clock, is considered one of Rolex’s three greatest inventions, together with the Oyster case and the self-winding Perpetual mechanism, and the Datejust model is the culmination of all of them.

This Datejust, with its measuring numerals and bi-directional rotating bezel, was officially known as the Turn-O-Graph.

The Ref. 1625 is the second generation of the Turn-O-Graph, produced from about 1959 to 1977, with a stainless steel case and an 18K white gold bezel.

The name “Thunderbird” comes from the nickname of the U.S. Air Force’s acrobatic team, the Thunderbirds, which was founded in 1953.

When a member of the Thunderbirds used this chronograph and it spread throughout the team, the military officially asked Rolex to supply it.

Using this relationship, Rolex launched a special model for the American market, an 18K gold-cased chronograph with the Thunderbirds’ logo.

They then began to advertise the watch as the “Thunderbird”, hence the name.

The earlier models of Ref.1625 had variations such as dauphine hands and wedge markers, but since the later models, the design has been unified to baton hands and bar markers.

The movement is Cal.1570, an automatic movement.

It is a masterpiece among Rolex movements, with a good balance of accuracy and durability, and is the prototype of the current movement.

The bracelet comes with Jubilee bracelet 6251H. It is a retractable bracelet that is very light.

The bracelet has 19 links, so it can be worn up to about 18cm around the wrist.
