The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/100-MC4 VE.Can is a high-capacity solar charge controller designed for large off-grid, marine and commercial installations. It accepts a maximum PV open-circuit voltage of 250V and delivers up to 100A of charge current, with integrated MC4 connectors for direct panel string connection and VE.Can for system-level network integration.
The 250/100 rating means this controller can handle PV arrays with an open-circuit voltage up to 250V and deliver up to 100A into the battery bank. In practice, this makes it well suited to 24V and 48V systems with multiple panels wired in series-parallel configurations. The MC4 connectors are built directly into the unit, which simplifies wiring and reduces the number of external junction points in the array circuit.
The VE.Can bus connection is a key feature for professional installations. It allows the SmartSolar to communicate with other Victron devices on the same CAN network, including GX monitoring devices, Multi and Quattro inverter-chargers, and other SmartSolar units. This enables coordinated system behaviour, centralised monitoring via the VRM portal, and accurate state-of-charge tracking when used alongside a compatible battery monitor or BMS.
Bluetooth is built in as standard. Using the VictronConnect app, installers can configure charge voltages, battery type, absorption time and other parameters without needing a separate dongle or physical interface. The same app provides real-time data on PV power, battery voltage and charge state.

This controller operates at up to 250V DC on the PV input. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician or MCS-accredited installer familiar with high-voltage DC solar systems. Ensure the PV array open-circuit voltage does not exceed 250V under any temperature conditions. Battery connections should be appropriately fused and cabled to handle 100A continuous current. VE.Can wiring requires correct termination resistors at each end of the bus. Configure the unit via VictronConnect before commissioning to match the battery chemistry and voltage of the system.
