Since its founding in 1881, Seiko has stood at the forefront of horological innovation, driven by a singular vision: to create timepieces that blend precision, elegance, and cutting-edge technology. From pioneering the world’s first quartz watch to mastering the art of mechanical craftsmanship, Seiko has consistently redefined the standards of excellence in watchmaking. Each Seiko watch is a reflection of Japanese artistry, engineered for reliability and crafted with timeless style. More than a measure of time, a Seiko is a statement of enduring quality and forward-thinking design.
A rugged icon born before its time, this rare c.1987 Seiko Fieldmaster is the spiritual predecessor to the legendary “Arnie” H558, famously worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger in classic action films of the 1980s. Designed for durability in the harshest conditions, this early Fieldmaster showcases Seiko’s fearless innovation—most notably through its distinctive ashtray-style bezel, a pioneering design feature that debuted with this very model.
The watch boasts a clean, functional black chronograph dial with luminous hands and markers for excellent legibility, housed in a robust stainless steel case. It retains its original black rubber Tropic straps, flexible and form-fitting, made for dependable field performance.
This example shows light wear consistent with age, including tiny traces of pitting on the caseback, but remains in overall great condition with strong visual presence and fully functional operation. A rare find for collectors, this early Fieldmaster captures the essence of Seiko's late-1980s tool-watch excellence—an authentic piece of horological history that laid the groundwork for the iconic “Arnie” series.
