Why this kit matters
The IJN Light Cruiser Sakawa was an Agano-class light cruiser built for the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. Completed in late 1944, she saw limited service due to Japan's dwindling resources and the increasing Allied air superiority. Despite her short career, she represents the pinnacle of Japanese light cruiser design.
Sakawa's fate is particularly poignant. After the war, she was used to repatriate Japanese soldiers before being used as a target ship during the "Operation Crossroads" atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll in 1946. Her story serves as a reminder of the devastating power of nuclear weapons and the human cost of war.
