Description:
This is the first studio recording by veteran Norwegian guitarist Terje Rypdal in about 20 years. The album title "Conspiracy" is both the title of a song on the album and the name of the ensemble that participated in the recording. The album re-plugs into the wild inspiration that gave rise to Ripdall's early masterpieces such as "Whenever I Seem To Be Far Away," "Odyssey," and "Waves," and combines his love of raw energy as a rock improviser and his sense of space and texture as a composer. He explores the sonic possibilities of the electric guitar, combining both his love of raw energy as a rock improviser and his sense of space and texture as a composer. Keyboardist Stale Storlokken, who also played on Ripdall's "Vossabrygg" and "Crime Scene" albums and was a member of Skywards, uses his own intuitive sense to add depth to the sound, and his Hammond organ sounds blend into Terje's Fender Statcaster, and the sounds surrounding it are both nostalgic and futuristic. In addition, drummer Pal Thowsen, who was last heard at ECM in Arild Andersen's group in the 1970s, is back and his delicate, precise drumming is still alive and well. The Rypdal band is being developed into one of the best bands in years by the talented young bassist Endre Hareide Hallre. Conspiracy was recorded at Oslo's Rainbow Studios and produced by Manfred Eicher and Terje Rypdal.
