Description:

Christian Thielemann, who is also Chief Conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden and General Music Director of the Salzburg Easter Festival, is regarded as a world master of German music in both name and reality. He is now one of the most important conductors of the Vienna Philharmonic, and their ongoing big project "Bruckner: The Complete Symphonies" has been attracting a great deal of attention. The fourth recording is Bruckner's No. 2 in C minor, one of the most popular early symphonies by Bruckner. Although it was the fourth symphony in the order of composition, this was the second to be numbered. From the beginning of the first movement, the clear sound like a wind crossing a plateau catches the ear. The beauty of the long, breathy melody of the second movement, Andante, is also exceptional. Thielemann's fluid interpretation of Callaghan's second draft, which accentuates the graceful and rich sound of the Vienna Philharmonic, is a perfect match for this work. This is the third time the Vienna Philharmonic has performed the same piece since Stein in 1973 and Muti in 2004.Bruckner by Thielemann & the Vienna Philharmonic Thielemann's first Bruckner symphony with the Vienna Philharmonic was No. 7, which he conducted in Tokyo in November 2003 when he substituted for Sawallisch, followed by No. 8 at the 7th subscription concert in March 2007 and the European Tour, The Vienna Philharmonic released a self-produced CD of the No. 5 at the Salzburg Festival in August 2013, which is still available on the Vienna Philharmonic's online store. Then in April 2019, No. 2 (on this disc) was featured at the 9th subscription concert, the first of a series of video and audio recordings of the complete symphonies to be co-produced by Unitel, Sony Classical, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the ORF. The symphonies were performed twice in subscription concerts and then moved to Berlin for a fundraising concert for the rebuilding of Notre Dame in the Berlin Cathedral. Both times it was featured in combination with No. 2 and the orchestral piece "Eternity in an hour" by British composer Christian Mason [Christian Mason b.1984]. This was followed by No. 8 in November 2019, the first in the order of release, and No. 4, "Romantic," at the Salzburg Festival in August 2020.No. 3 in November 2020, No. 1 in January 2021 based on the Vienna manuscript, No. 5 in February, and F minor and No. 0 in D minor in March were all performed and recorded without audience due to sub-corona. Symphony No. 7 was also recorded at the Salzburg Festival in 2021. Christian Thielemann ProfileBorn in Berlin in 1959. He studied at the Stern School of Music and became assistant to Karajan.
