Let’s start at the bottom and work our way up the XL Adjustable Rig.

XL Big Green EGG Grids

This is simple. The Stainless XL EGG Grid can only go under the XL Adjustable Rig. The grid does not fit in the dome and therefore cannot sit on top of the Rig.

You can also use a pair of XL EGG Half-Moon Cast Iron Grids under the Rig, but only under the Rig. Keep cast iron close to the fire, so it can absorb the required heat.

XL Grid Options: You have multiple ways to run the XL Grid. It can sit directly on the fire ring, pair with the CGS XL Spiders or — our preferred method — ride on the CGS XL Woo.

CGS 20-Inch Round Stainless Grid

Again, straightforward: the CGS 20-inch grid belongs on top of the XL Adjustable Rig. We sized it at 20 inches because that’s the effective cooking area inside the 21-inch fire ring. 

Pro Tip: The 20-inch grid also fits the bottom level of the CGS Woo, making it a dual-purpose grid.

CGS 16×20 Inch Oval Stainless Grid

The 16×20 Oval sits on top of the XL Rig or inside the Rig on the XL Crossbars or XL Slide Guide. Think of it as a trimmed 20-inch round grid — one crosswire removed from each end.

We designed this grid with BBQ cooks in mind. It can hold a full brisket, two large pork butts, or three racks of baby backs or St. Louis ribs with ease.

CGS 20-Inch Half-Moon Grid

Like the 16×20, the 20-inch Half-Moon Grid is a 20-inch round grid cut cleanly in half. On the XL Rig it sits on top and toward the back side of the Rig.

Positioning the half grid high and back creates an elevated staging or holding zone. This frees up the lower grid for big searing or high-capacity grilling

The real benefit is running an indirect setup with the 20 half grid. Add the XL Half Stone Hanger and one CGS 18-inch Half-Moon Deflector. The hanger attaches to the Rig and holds the deflector directly under the half-moon grid for true split-zone cooking.

Pro Tip: The required 18 half-moon deflector is the same used with the CGS XL Woo. 

Perforated Grid:

For perforated grids, always place a stainless grid underneath for support. Perforated grids are go-to options for grilling veggies, shrimp and scallops.
